Shale Gas

Shale gas is natural gas produced from shale – a fine grain sedimentary rock.   Historically, shale was not considered commercially viable for producing natural gas because of its insufficient permeability to allow significant flow into the well bore.  However, recent technical innovation in horizontal drilling and fracturing have brought “shale gas” to the forefront of natural gas producton.
