Now that gene studies and powerful computers are available, medical science has a powerful tool in high-speed gene sequencing, which blows open new opportunities for tracking down potential cancer-causing viruses – or ruling out any links. It involves transducing tumor cells with a gene encoding an enzyme that can metabolize a nontoxic pro-drug to its toxic form. Within this short time span, it has moved from the conceptual laboratory research stage to clinical translational trials for brain tumors. In the future, I hope that the medical community learns to kill the virus first at diagnosis with Anti-virals or at minimum, put it into a latent non-spreading weakened stated, just like we are working towards killing HIV.
