Shale gas is the next big thing

If you have not figured it out yet, shale gas is the next big thing. And it is happening right now and right here in British Columbia’s Horn River and Montney basin. The future looks very bright indeed.

In her article today titled “The next big thing”, Claudia Cattaneo, Calgary Bureau Chief of the Financial Post, explains why despite the recession and oil/gas bear market, energy sector players are planting the seeds now in preparation for the next cycle and their area of focus is on oil and shale gas. The article states:

The resource play movement, however, is not only continuing, but changing the business. Outside the oil sands, of which all the good reserves are already owned, the biggest incremental supplies of the next cycle are expected to come from resource plays — oil and particularly shale gas –by using drilling advancements.

The outlook is very encouraging as it is based not just on recovering energy prices but on technology advancements that have allowed developers to tap into massive resources that were never thought possible only a few short years ago. (As quoted in a previous Horn River article the vast majority of analysts see natural gas at a bottom an predicting it will more then double in price by year’s end).

For some it may be challeging to look beyond the current market turmoil, but for others the future is apparent. We will need energy and lots of it. We need clean energy and lots of it. Fortunately, British Columbia has two of the largest shale gas basins in North America and is making the necessary investments and planting the seeds to make northeast BC the clean energy provider of North America and beyond.
